Amasaman Circuit Court grants GHC150,000 bail to 37-year-old accused of defiling 14-year-old student

The Amasaman Circuit Court has granted bail to Kwadwo Nyarko, a 37-year-old aluminium fabricator, accused of defiling a 14-year-old Junior High School pupil. Nyarko denied having carnal knowledge of the student.

Presiding over the case, a relieving judge set bail at GHC150,000 with three sureties, requiring two to provide proof of gainful employment with a monthly salary of not less than GHC2,000.

The court noted that police investigations were complete, Nyarko had a fixed residence, was not considered a flight risk, and that the alleged offence was bailable. The prosecution was directed to provide disclosure to the accused by December 11, 2025, the next adjourned date.

Police Chief Inspector Richard Benjamin Arthur, assisted by Assistant Superintendent Dora Amooh, told the court that the complainant is the victim’s aunt. The victim resided with her aunt and family at Adjen-Kotoku, sharing a room with her cousins, while her aunt and husband occupied a separate room.

According to the police, on November 3, 2025, at about 6:00 a.m., the complainant noticed that the victim had not returned home after fetching water the previous night around 9:00 p.m.

The victim initially claimed she had spent the night at a friend’s house, but later admitted to spending the night in Nyarko’s room. The complainant escorted the victim to Nyarko’s residence, leading to his arrest.

A police medical form was issued for the victim’s examination, but it had not been returned due to financial constraints faced by the complainant, who could not afford the associated medical costs.
