The Office of the Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has firmly rejected a publication suggesting that he is seeking an audience with President John Dramani Mahama over the return of Mr. Ofori-Atta, describing the claim as false and fabricated.
In a rejoinder dated December 16, 2025, the Office said its attention had been drawn to a report published by the Herald newspaper and subsequently carried by other media outlets under the headline “Troubled Akufo-Addo seeks Mahama’s audience for Ofori-Atta’s return.”
The publication alleged that the former President was considering approaching President Mahama to seek assurances of safe passage for Ofori-Atta.

The rejoinder was signed by the Office of the Former President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to the Office, Nana Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated such an action nor made any request or representation, whether expressly or impliedly, to President John Dramani Mahama, or to any agent or assign acting on his behalf.
The statement stressed that the claim did not originate from any credible source and was a total fabrication.
The rejoinder reaffirmed that Nana Akufo-Addo is a firm believer in democratic principles and that his fidelity to the rule of law has never been in question.
While acknowledging that the fate of Mr. Ofori-Atta is of concern to the former President,given their familial relationship and the fact that ,
Mr. Ofori-Atta served as Minister for Finance throughout both governments under his mandate,the Office emphasized that such concern does not extend to any attempt to interfere with due process or the rule of law.
The Office said the statement was intended to set the record straight and further demanded that the media outlets responsible for the publication reproduce the rejoinder in line with the former President’s rights.
