The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested two persons for unlawful possession of a large quantity of ammunition at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as Kwame Afram, a bus driver, and Godfred Essel, a mate, were arrested on 26 December 2025 after police officers on duty intercepted a Kia Granbird bus, registration number GT 5771-18, travelling from Accra towards Walewale en route to Paga.
A search conducted on the bus led to the discovery of two concealed containers containing a total of 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

Further search of the vehicle also uncovered a bag hidden under the driver’s seat, which contained two bulletproof plates, one black crushed helmet, and a pair of long boots.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The bus and all retrieved exhibits have been impounded as investigations continue.
