On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang met with Japan‘s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Kunimitsu Ayano, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto, and representatives of Japanese investor groups to discuss diplomacy, trade, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, were also in attendance.
The discussions focused on strengthening economic and diplomatic relations between Ghana and Japan, emphasizing trade expansion, industrial development, skills enhancement, and job creation.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang extended congratulations to Sanae Takaichi, the first female Prime Minister of Japan, while reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to nurturing the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
The engagement also highlighted key upcoming milestones in 2027, including 100 years since Dr. Hideyo Noguchi’s work in Ghana, 70 years of formal diplomatic relations, and 50 years of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers’ presence in Ghana.
These events provide a platform to deepen collaboration and showcase shared achievements.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang underscored Ghana’s focus on value addition through domestic processing of natural resources, industry development, and sustainable job creation.
She emphasized balanced partnerships that allow Ghanaian businesses to thrive in Japan, while Japanese enterprises continue to invest in Ghana, promoting shared prosperity.
The meeting reflects a strategic push to strengthen bilateral cooperation, attract investment, and foster long-term economic growth for both nations.
