Former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reject any flagbearer aspirant who lacks the capacity to unite the party ahead of upcoming elections.
Speaking on the state of the party and its future direction, Acheampong stressed that unity remains the NPP’s strongest asset and warned that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances of electoral success.
According to him, leadership should be measured not only by popularity or rhetoric, but by the ability to bring together all factions of the party behind a shared vision.

He argued that the NPP cannot afford a leadership contest that leaves lasting fractures, noting that the party’s history shows that cohesion has always been central to its victories. Any candidate whose conduct or message deepens divisions, he said, should not be entrusted with the party’s leadership.
Acheampong further called on aspirants to conduct their campaigns with discipline, respect, and responsibility, emphasizing that internal competition must not override the collective interest of the party. He urged party supporters and delegates to prioritize long-term stability over short-term excitement.
As the NPP prepares for its internal elections, Acheampong’s remarks add to growing calls within the party for calm, maturity, and unity, amid heightened political tensions and public exchanges among leading figures.
