Ato Forson commends Ghana Armed Forces at end-of-year Wassa ceremony

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to national peace and security, as he delivered opening remarks at the End-of-Year West African Soldiers’ Social Activities (WASSA) ceremony.

Addressing personnel and invited guests on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Forson described the occasion as an important moment to reflect on the achievements and sacrifices of the Armed Forces over the past year.

He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, for honouring the event with his presence and for providing leadership that continues to anchor peace, stability, and progress in the country.

Dr. Forson noted that President Mahama’s economic reset agenda and commitment to good governance have strengthened public confidence and inspired the Armed Forces to work towards a secure, stable, and prosperous Ghana.

He acknowledged the President’s consistent support for the Ministry of Defence and the military, which has enhanced cooperation, professionalism, and operational effectiveness.

He paid tribute to the gallant men and women in uniform, stressing that their sacrifices and resilience have kept Ghana strong and united in the face of internal and external security challenges.

He assured personnel and the general public that the Ministry of Defence remains committed to providing clear strategic policy direction to keep the Armed Forces modern, responsive, and operationally ready.

Dr. Forson emphasized that the wellbeing of military personnel remains a top priority of the Mahama administration.

He outlined ongoing government efforts to improve welfare, including accommodation, healthcare, training, career progression, and general living conditions, noting that these interventions are critical to boosting morale and effectiveness.

He also highlighted government’s recognition of its obligations to retirees and veterans, disclosing that the concerns of the 1995/96 year group and over-aged retirees are receiving serious attention through constructive engagements aimed at fair and sustainable solutions.

As the ceremony marked another year of service, Dr. Forson called on personnel to uphold the unity, discipline, and traditions that define the Ghana Armed Forces.

He concluded by thanking the Military High Command and all service personnel for their dedication, praying for God’s blessings on the Armed Forces and the nation.
