Former Majority Leader and Member of Parliament, Joe Osei Owusu, has stated that no official of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has the authority to interfere with the work of the Electoral Commission (EC), particularly in the conduct of party primaries.
Speaking on matters relating to the upcoming NPP primaries, Mr. Osei Owusu stressed that the EC is an independent constitutional body whose mandate is clearly defined by law.
He explained that the Commission operates autonomously and is protected from external influence, including from political parties and their officials.

According to him, the role of political parties in internal elections is to comply with the guidelines and directives issued by the EC, not to attempt to influence or dictate how the Commission carries out its duties.
He cautioned party members and officials against making statements or taking actions that could be interpreted as interference, noting that such conduct undermines democratic principles and public confidence in the electoral process.
Hon.Osei Owusu further emphasised that the NPP, as a party that prides itself on upholding the rule of law and democratic values, must lead by example by respecting the independence of state institutions.
He added that disagreements or concerns relating to electoral processes should be addressed through the appropriate legal and institutional channels rather than public pressure or political manoeuvring.
He urged party supporters to remain calm and law-abiding throughout the primary process, assuring them that the EC has the experience and capacity to conduct free, fair, and credible elections.
The remarks come amid heightened political activity ahead of the NPP primaries, with party leaders calling for unity, discipline, and respect for democratic institutions to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
