The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Dr. The Most Honourable Andrew Michael Holness, has warmly received a Ghanaian delegation led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressing deep appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana for their solidarity and assistance following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
Prime Minister Holness conveyed Jamaica’s heartfelt gratitude for Ghana’s timely support, describing it as a powerful demonstration of true friendship.
He noted that Jamaica would not forget the kindness shown by Ghana during a difficult period in the country’s recovery efforts.

Discussions between the two sides extended beyond post-disaster support to broader areas of cooperation. Key among them was a commitment to deploy Ghanaian teachers and nurses to Jamaica within the year under a proposed special labour exchange agreement aimed at strengthening human resource capacity in critical sectors.
The meeting also resulted in an agreement to initiate a Ghana-Jamaica Defence Cooperation Agreement, reflecting a shared interest in enhancing security collaboration and institutional ties between the two countries.
Economic cooperation featured prominently in the talks, with both sides exploring business opportunities for Ghanaian companies.
This comes as Jamaica prepares for a major infrastructural revamp as part of Prime Minister Holness’ vision to build back better and stimulate sustainable economic growth.
On the international front, Prime Minister Holness pledged Jamaica’s full support for President Mahama’s proposed United Nations resolution seeking to declare the transatlantic slave trade the greatest crime against humanity and to demand reparations.
Hon. Ablakwa expressed gratitude to the Jamaican Prime Minister for his exceptional hospitality and reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to deepen bilateral relations.
He also noted Prime Minister Holness’ strong desire to visit Ghana, adding that the country looks forward to hosting him in the near future as ties between the two nations continue to grow.
