The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect for making inciting comments believed to threaten public peace in Bawku and its surrounding communities.
According to a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday, January 31, 2026, the suspect, identified as Raphael Azare Kariyama, was arrested through an intelligence-led operation aimed at monitoring and curbing the spread of content that incites violence or threatens public order and national security.
Police said the arrest forms part of broader efforts to maintain calm and prevent the escalation of tensions in sensitive areas. The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be put before a court to face the law.

The CID noted that investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest other accomplices connected to the matter.
The Ghana Police Service has meanwhile cautioned the general public against making, publishing, or sharing inciteful comments, stressing that such actions undermine peace, security, and national stability.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to taking firm action against individuals whose conduct threatens public order.
