The Volta Regional Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking with the interception of twenty-six (26) sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in Ho.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service on January 24, 2026, the operation was carried out following intelligence received on January 23, 2026.
The information indicated that a white American Ford Wagon bearing a Ghana Health inscription had been loaded with suspected narcotic drugs from Dzolokpuita and was heading towards Ho.

Acting on the intelligence, a joint team of officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), Police Intelligence Unit (PID), and the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was deployed for surveillance.
The team intercepted the vehicle near Tarso Hotel in Ho after a hot chase, as the driver failed to stop when signalled at the Ziave Police Check Point.
A search conducted on the vehicle in the presence of the suspect, identified as Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, a 38-year-old staff member of the Ghana Health Service Directorate in Ho, revealed 26 maxi sacks containing a total of 2,045 yellow, oval-shaped wrapped compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The estimated street value of the seized substances is GHC 1,022,500.00.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while arrangements are underway to forward the exhibits to the Forensic Laboratory for examination and analysis.
The Volta Regional Police Command has assured the public of enhanced surveillance and sustained operations as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking activities within the region.
The Police also encouraged the public to continue supporting law enforcement with credible information to help maintain safety and security.
