Kwesi Arthur alleges threats and financial demands in dispute with former label

Award-winning Ghanaian musician Kwesi Arthur has publicly raised serious allegations against his former record label, Ground Up Chale, citing an ongoing legal and financial dispute that he says has affected his wellbeing and safety.

In a strongly worded statement, the artist claimed he is being demanded to pay $150,000 for using images of himself for his current independent project.

According to Kwesi Arthur, the label alleges ownership over his image, music, and all related rights from 2016 to date, despite what he says has been a complete lack of affiliation with the company since the release of Son of Jacob.

The musician further alleged that he has not earned any income from his music during the years he worked with the label and accused Ground Up Chale’s management, particularly Glen Boateng, of issuing constant threats and engaging in manipulation.

He claimed these actions are aimed at preventing him from releasing music independently.

Kwesi Arthur warned that any attempt to take down his current project should be attributed to his former label, stating that efforts are allegedly being made “around the clock” to stop him from putting out music.

In the statement, the artist said he had remained silent for a long time but decided to speak out due to the toll the situation has taken on his mental health and overall wellbeing. He added that his decision to go public was motivated by concerns for his own safety and that of his family.

The allegations have sparked widespread public reaction, with fans and industry observers calling for clarity and accountability as the dispute unfolds. Neither Ground Up Chale nor Glen Boateng has publicly responded to the claims at the time of reporting.
