Sampson Azumah, a 21-year-old man accused of stabbing a firefighter at Adjiriganor on Friday, November 14, has been remanded into police custody by the Achimota Circuit Court. Azumah, charged with causing unlawful harm, pleaded not guilty and is expected to reappear on December 3, 2025.
Prosecution opposed bail, arguing that Azumah, who has no fixed residence, might not appear for trial and could interfere with witnesses in the community.
After hearing submissions from Chief Inspector Emmanuel Addo and considering the circumstances, the trial judge remanded the accused.

Chief Inspector Addo explained that the complainant, Leslie Adjei Tetteh, a firefighter residing in Teshie, Accra, was among personnel who responded to a fire at Yvonne Okoro’s residence in Adjiriganor around 11:30 pm on November 14.
While dousing the fire, the officers were pelted with stones by bystanders, including Azumah.
Prosecution said that as the firefighters were folding the water hoses after the fire was controlled, Azumah attacked Tetteh for allegedly splashing him with water.
Without waiting for an explanation, Azumah pulled a screwdriver from his waist bag and stabbed the complainant on his left arm before fleeing. Tetteh was rushed to hospital for treatment, and a police report was filed.
Azumah was arrested on November 17 at his hideout. During investigations, he admitted the offence, and the screwdriver used was recovered.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer II Rashid Nisawu, Greater Accra Regional Commander, expressed concern over rising attacks on fire personnel but reassured staff that the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) would follow the case to its conclusion. GNFS personnel attended the court session in large numbers to show solidarity with the victim.
