Asutifi North MP Appears in Court Over Alleged Incitement of Mob Attack on NAIMOS Director

Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court over allegations that he incited a mob to attack Colonel Dominic Buah, Director of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), and his team at Ahafo Hwediem in the Ahafo Region.

The MP has been charged with conspiracy to assault a public officer, assault on a public officer, conspiracy to cause unlawful damage, causing unlawful damage, and rioting with weapons. Two alleged accomplices, identified only as Zakaria Yakubu and Alex, remain at large.

The court, acting on a request from prosecutors, did not take the plea of the accused to preserve the integrity of ongoing investigations. Addo was granted bail in the sum of GHC150,000 with one surety to be justified. As part of the bail conditions, he is prohibited from leaving the Greater Accra Region without notifying the investigator and must report to the police every two weeks until further notice.

The court also warned the MP against any conduct that could hinder investigations. The case has been adjourned to December 1, 2025.

During proceedings, defence counsel argued that the MP voluntarily presented himself to the police and was not arrested, insisting he posed no risk of interfering with investigations. They emphasised that as a sitting MP with a fixed place of abode, family responsibilities, and public duties, he was not a flight risk.

Prosecutors, however, maintained that the case carries national interest and confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters has taken over the probe. They prayed that the court remand the accused due to the gravity of the allegations.

After hearing both sides, the court granted bail to the MP.

The investigation stems from a directive issued on November 3, 2025, by Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, instructing the CID to probe the alleged attack on the NAIMOS team. Addo was subsequently invited by the police to assist with the investigation.
