The Western Regional Police Command has begun investigations into a fatal shooting at a mining company site at Adelekezu near Dadwen in the Axim District of the Western Region, an incident that escalated into widespread destruction of property and the arrest of five suspects.
The shooting occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025, after a confrontation between some youth from Adelekezu and private security personnel at the company’s concession.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the youth attempted to invade the concession and, in the process, tried to seize a pump-action gun from one of the security men. The security man resisted and fired the weapon, striking a boy.

The victim was rushed to the Axim Government Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
His death triggered anger among the youth, who reportedly went on a rampage at the mining site, setting company property on fire and threatening to lynch workers.
When police teams arrived at the scene, they found two 4×4 SUV vehicles and two tipper trucks burnt. A pickup vehicle and a Toyota Land Cruiser had also been damaged by the youth.
Police intervention led to the rescue of 11 workers from the site. Five suspects were arrested for causing harm and unlawful damage. They are Gyenyame Owusu, aged 38; Matthew Asamah, 24; Nana Yaw, 15; Yaw Opoku, 16; and Kojo Agyei, 21.
The Western Regional Police Command has called on members of the community to remain calm and cooperate with investigations as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served
