A Kumasi High Court has sentenced Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, also known as Tycoon, a police officer with the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT), to life imprisonment for the murder of 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, popularly known as Maa Adwoa.
The verdict, delivered on Friday, October 24, 2025, came after a 5-2 jury decision, finding the officer guilty of shooting the victim multiple times in the abdomen and chest on April 20, 2023, at Adum in Kumasi.
According to court records, the tragic incident occurred around 9:50 p.m., and the victim, a mother of one, was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. An uncle of the deceased reported the incident to the police, leading to a manhunt and subsequent arrest of Inspector Twumasi at his hideout in Sekyere near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region.

During the trial, Inspector Twumasi denied allegations that the victim was his girlfriend, insisting that “she was just a friend.” His defence directly contradicted the prosecution’s claim that a romantic relationship had existed between them, a claim that the prosecution said formed part of the motive behind the shooting.
Despite his denial, the jury found the evidence sufficient to convict him, marking the end of a case that had drawn nationwide attention due to the involvement of a serving police officer and the emotional circumstances surrounding the crime.
