The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has arrested a key suspect in connection with the Wapuli kidnapping case, marking a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle a kidnapping syndicate operating in the area.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Northern Regional Police Headquarters in Tamale on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the arrest follows weeks of sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance by police investigators.
The case dates back to December 6, 2025, when police successfully rescued a 42-year-old man who had been kidnapped in Wapuli.

The operation led to the arrest of three suspects believed to be part of a four-member syndicate. Investigations revealed that the victim suffered life-threatening cutlass wounds during captivity.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of GH¢100,000, out of which GH¢90,000 was paid. Police were later able to retrieve GH¢70,000 of the amount.
Following the initial arrests, police intensified their manhunt for the remaining accomplice. On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at about 1:30 a.m., officers arrested the fourth and key suspect, identified as Hoyeefe Amadu, at his hideout in a village approximately 10 kilometres from the outskirts of Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu.
The three earlier suspects have since been remanded into prison custody and are expected to reappear in court as investigations continue.
