Police intercept vehicle carrying suspected narcotic drugs on Accra-Aflao Road

The Volta Regional Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking following the interception of a vehicle transporting suspected narcotic substances along the Accra-Aflao road.

The operation took place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, when police personnel, acting on intelligence, intercepted a black Liberty Jeep with registration number FK 692 KF near Kpotame, close to Sogakorpe.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Charles Adenkule, a 46-year-old Nigerian national, was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with investigations.

A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of ten parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine. Each parcel is estimated to weigh approximately one kilogram, with a total estimated street value of GH¢1,032,650.00.

In addition, about half a kilogram of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed behind the inner lining of the vehicle’s boot.

According to the Volta Regional Police Command, the intelligence that led to the arrest was received through the Police Intelligence Unit. Acting on this information, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, deployed a combined team from the Police Intelligence Department (PID), the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), and the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) to carry out the operation.

DCOP Akorli commended the officers involved for their professionalism, diligence, and integrity, particularly noting their refusal to accept any form of compromise during the arrest.

The seized substances are expected to be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for detailed examination and analysis. Meanwhile, investigations continue as police work to establish the full network behind the suspected drug trafficking operation.

The Volta Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to support effective policing across the region.
