717 cadet leaders begin national leadership training camp at Sogakope SHS

The leadership of the Ghana National Cadet Corps (GNCC) has opened a week-long National Cadet Leadership Training Camp at the Sogakope Senior High School in the Volta Region, aimed at promoting discipline, loyalty, and patriotism among young leaders across the country.

Held under the theme “Discipline and Loyalty: A Call to Review and Reset,” the camp has brought together 717 participants from all 16 regions of Ghana to undergo a comprehensive leadership and capacity-building programme.

Mr. Nicholas Nii Tettey-Amarteifio, the National Cadet Coordinator General, said the camp seeks to build and refresh leadership skills while reinforcing discipline and national service among cadet members.

“The essence of this camp is to bring young leaders together to refresh themselves on how to be more disciplined. Indiscipline in our schools remains a major challenge, and one key body that can help address it is the cadet corps,” he said.

Participants will receive training in fire safety, basic policing, military drills, and leadership development to strengthen their sense of duty, teamwork, and responsibility.

Mr. Tettey-Amarteifio acknowledged government support but called for additional assistance to make future training camps more accessible and affordable, especially for participants from remote areas.

“Government alone cannot do it all. Participants have contributed financially to be part of this camp. However, we appeal for more support so that future editions can be made virtually cost-free to encourage wider participation,” he noted.

Madam Victoria Dzeklo, the South Tongu Municipal Chief Executive, representing the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, commended the initiative, describing it as a life-shaping experience that instills discipline, service, and leadership values in the youth.

“This camp is more than a training programme; it is a life-shaping experience. Leadership is not about rank or title but about responsibility, humility, and courage to do the right thing even when no one is watching,” she stated.

She urged participants to remain focused, resilient, and committed, emphasizing that every challenge faced during the training would help shape them into better citizens and future leaders.

Mr. Newman Dziedzoave, Headmaster of Sogakope Senior High School, expressed appreciation for the school’s selection as host institution and encouraged the cadets to make the most of the opportunity.

He urged participants to be patriotic, disciplined, and law-abiding, noting that the skills acquired would enable them to serve their schools and communities effectively.

The opening ceremony was attended by officers from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service, and other security agencies, who will support the week-long training through practical drills and leadership sessions.
