Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, has pledged to restructure Ghana‘s national budget and introduce a constituency-based budget system if elected President.
He expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would win the 2028 general elections should delegates endorse him as flagbearer, noting that the constituency-based budget would help address development needs at the grassroots level.
Dr Bawumia made the pledge when he addressed polling station officers, electoral area coordinators, and branch executives of the NPP in the Dormaa Central Constituency at Dormaa-Ahenkro, during his campaign tour of the Bono Region.

He was accompanied by Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Majority Leader; Nana Akomea, former Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC); and Mr Kwame Baffoe, Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP.
Addressing a similar meeting at Wamfie in the Dormaa West Constituency, Dr Bawumia said local contractors would be prioritised for development projects under his administration. He added that awarding local contracts from Accra would no longer be the norm, and constituency-level town hall meetings for party officers would be held annually.
The former Vice President, who is touring the country to canvass votes ahead of the NPP’s 2028 Presidential Primaries slated for January 31, 2026, said he would ensure that party members benefit from his administration.
He highlighted his record as Vice President under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, citing the implementation of 33 key policies, including the Mobile Money Interoperability system, which expanded mobile money accounts from eight million to 24 million users and increased MoMo agents from 107,000 to 900,000.
Dr Bawumia also mentioned his role in introducing the Ghana Card, the national digital identity system, and the Zipline drone delivery project.
He urged NPP delegates to remain united and decorous in their campaign efforts, focusing on issues rather than insults, and called for support to lead the party to victory in 2028.
