During the engagement, the Chief Justice identified congestion in the courts as a major challenge undermining efficient justice delivery. He outlined several interventions currently being developed to address the issue, including measures aimed at improving court infrastructure and case management systems.
He also raised concerns about the working conditions of judicial officers and staff.
In response, Hon. Ato Forson reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Judiciary and the Ministry of Justice to address these challenges. He indicated that discussions are ongoing on policy options to strengthen the operational capacity of the courts.
As part of the measures under consideration, the Finance Minister disclosed that he is examining the possibility of allowing the Judiciary to utilise 100 per cent of its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to meet urgent operational needs and improve service delivery.
The engagement underscored the importance of collaboration between the Executive and the Judiciary in strengthening Ghana’s justice system and ensuring timely access to justice for all citizens.
