Ghana‘s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has hosted the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, His Excellency Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, ahead of a major regional security conference in Accra.
Ambassador Adeoye is in the country at the invitation of the Government of Ghana to participate in a high-level summit on regional cooperation and security, scheduled for January 28 and 29, 2026. The conference will be held under the distinguished chairmanship of President John Dramani Mahama.
The two-day meeting is expected to bring together key stakeholders to deliberate on the growing security challenges confronting the region and to develop homegrown African solutions to address them decisively.

Discussions will focus on strengthening coordination, deepening cooperation, and adopting practical strategies to confront insecurity.
Speaking on the engagement, Mr. Ablakwa underscored the importance of collective action in safeguarding peace and stability across the region.
He emphasized that sustained development cannot be achieved in the absence of peace, stressing the government’s resolve to work closely with regional and continental partners to guarantee long-term stability.
The summit forms part of Ghana’s broader commitment to advancing regional security architecture and supporting African-led initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and development across the continent.
