Ghana has made an additional donation of critical equipment and supplies to the Government of Jamaica to support ongoing reconstruction efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
The donation, made on the instructions of President John Dramani Mahama, includes construction equipment, air-conditioned tents, boats, outboard motors, medical supplies, water purifiers, as well as plumbing and electrical tools.
The items are intended to strengthen Jamaica’s recovery capacity as rebuilding continues in affected communities.

The Jamaican Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable Kamina Abena Johnson Smith, JP, received the donation on behalf of the Jamaican government and expressed appreciation for Ghana’s continued solidarity and timely support.
In a further demonstration of commitment, Ghana has approved Jamaica’s request for an extension of “Operation Boafo,” the humanitarian and reconstruction mission being carried out by Ghanaian personnel.
The operation has been extended from the initial 30 days to 90 days, following approval by Ghana’s Commander-in-Chief.
Commenting on the gesture, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the move reflects a deliberate shift in Ghana’s foreign policy orientation.
He noted that Ghana’s engagement with the international community will increasingly be guided by solidarity and shared responsibility, particularly toward friendly nations facing hardship.
According to him, Ghana’s support for Jamaica underscores the enduring historical and cultural ties between the two countries and highlights the importance of South-South cooperation in times of crisis.
“Ghana’s foreign policy will no longer be defined by how much we can take from others, but by how much we can share with others, especially our friends in distress,” he stated.
The extension of Operation Boafo and the additional donation are expected to significantly enhance Jamaica’s recovery efforts while further strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
