A ruling by the Commercial Division of the Tamale High Court directing a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary elections has triggered widespread anger and disappointment among New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth in the constituency.
The decision, which followed an election petition challenging the 2024 results, has been described by supporters of incumbent MP Mathew Nyindam as unfair and dismissive of what they say was overwhelming support for him during the polls.

The protesting youth insist that Nyindam won the elections with a clear and convincing margin, arguing that the Electoral Commission‘s declared results reflected the true will of the people of Kpandai.
They say the court’s directive for a rerun is unnecessary and politically motivated, accusing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of pushing for a second election because it could not accept defeat.
In a show of their displeasure, the NPP youth poured onto the streets of Kpandai in a massive demonstration. Clad in party colors and carrying placards bearing messages such as “Respect Our Votes” and “Nyindam Won Legitimately,” the demonstrators marched through major streets, chanting and expressing their frustration.
The protest, which drew large crowds, briefly disrupted commercial activity in parts of the town as tensions heightened.
Kpandai NPP youth organizer, Joseph Laado, warned that the ruling could escalate political tension in the constituency if not addressed.
He appealed to national authorities, including the leadership of the NPP, to intervene and ensure that the mandate of the people is protected. According to him, ordering a rerun without what they consider compelling evidence of electoral malpractice sets a dangerous precedent.
