Ho Municipal Assembly declares November 7, 2025, as Municipal Clean-Up Day to boost sanitation and green initiatives

The Ho Municipal Assembly has announced Friday, November 7, 2025, as a Municipal Clean-Up Day to promote cleanliness and reinforce the National Sanitation Day initiative launched by former President John Dramani Mahama.

The notice, signed by Mr Henry Yao Amesimeku, Municipal Coordinating Director, aligns with the Assembly’s Oxygen City Concept, aimed at sustaining a clean, green, and healthy environment for residents and visitors.

The exercise will run from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., during which all shops and commercial centres are expected to remain closed. Limited services, including pharmacies, fuel stations, Koko sellers, and institutions or individuals on special and emergency duties, will be allowed to operate.

The directive mandates that public and private institutions, corporate organisations, and community members actively participate by cleaning their surroundings and public spaces.

Key activities include sweeping and refuse removal, desilting drains, proper waste disposal, weeding, trimming overgrown vegetation, tree planting, and other beautification efforts.

Where no designated community meeting points exist, households are asked to observe the “Operation Clean Your Frontage/Backyard” initiative within their residences or neighbourhood clusters.

The clean-up will be supervised by the Volta Regional Minister, Municipal Chief Executive, traditional authorities, security agencies, and other dignitaries to ensure compliance, with offenders subject to legal sanctions.

The Assembly called on all stakeholders, including religious bodies, civil society organisations, educational institutions, corporate entities, media organisations, and households, to mobilise and participate fully.
