A police officer, Inspector Twumasi Ahmed, currently standing trial for the 2023 shooting of a woman in Kumasi, has denied claims that the victim, Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maa Adwoa, was his girlfriend.
In court, Inspector Ahmed refuted the prosecution’s description of the victim as his romantic partner, insisting that their relationship was purely platonic. “She was just a friend,” he told the court — a statement that directly contradicts the premise of the accusation.
The case, which remains before the court, stems from a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Kumasi in 2023. The prosecution maintains that Inspector Ahmed shot Dapaah, describing her as his lover, a claim that forms a key part of the alleged motive.

However, the defence has challenged that characterisation, arguing that the relationship between the two did not go beyond friendship.
The case has attracted significant public attention, given the involvement of a serving police officer and the disputed personal link between the accused and the victim.
The details of the case were first reported by GhanaWeb, under its Crime & Punishment section, in an article titled: “‘She was just a friend’ – Police officer accused of shooting girlfriend at Kumasi in 2023 tells court | Photos.”
