Keta (VR), Oct. 22. The Keta Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region has taken a significant step toward promoting inclusive education by providing teaching and learning materials to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the municipality. The items distributed included exercise books, textbooks, poster colours, and mathematical sets, aimed at enhancing the educational development of PWD students.
Mr Wisdom Seade, Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), emphasised during the ceremony at the assembly’s premises that the initiative was intended to nurture the development of PWDs and improve their future prospects. “The Assembly’s initiative is to help shine on the development and achievements of PWD students. We are committed to promoting inclusive education and supporting their growth,” he stated. Mr Seade further encouraged the students to recognise the importance of education, make optimal use of the materials provided, and strive for excellence, assuring them of continued support from the assembly.
Mr Fred Selorm Kasu, Head of the Social Welfare Department, explained that his department collaborated with the community to organise the initiative and acknowledged the Disability Fund Management Committee for their efforts in ensuring beneficiaries received the necessary support.

According to Mr Robert Kotey Ashie, Unit Head, a total of 27 students, 16 females and 11 males, benefited from the initiative. He noted the beneficiaries’ excitement and gratitude, urging them to utilise the resources fully in their studies. He also appealed to other applicants yet to receive support to be patient, assuring that arrangements were underway to extend assistance to more PWDs in the municipality.
Parents of the students expressed heartfelt appreciation to the MCE and the assembly, calling for the initiative to be sustained and expanded through the District Assembly Common Fund to empower more PWDs to become productive members of society. Beneficiaries themselves also thanked the donors, pledging to work hard and maximise the educational opportunities provided.
