The Police Council has recommended a two-year extension of service for Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as he approaches his mandatory retirement in December 2025.
Sources cited by Myjoyonline indicate that the proposal has already been forwarded to President John Mahama for consideration and approval. If accepted, the extension will enable IGP Yohuno to continue leading the Ghana Police Service through ongoing reforms, modernisation efforts, and critical national security operations.
IGP Yohuno was appointed on March 13, 2025, by President Mahama in consultation with the Council of State and was sworn into office the following day. He succeeded Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

Prior to his appointment, Yohuno served as Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations from July 2024 under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The proposed contract extension is expected to provide stability and leadership continuity as the police administration advances major security, operational, and personnel development initiatives.
