Residents of the Ningo-Prampram district joined nationwide efforts to mark National Sanitation Day, contributing to a cleanup exercise that culminated at Dawa.
The initiative saw participation from assembly staff, assembly members, health officers, drivers, and community members, focusing on key areas including the Dawa CHPS Compound and the local Police Station.
The exercise, part of the assembly’s rotational schedule to promote cleanliness across all communities, was led by Mr Raphael Uriel Narteh, the Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive (DCE).

Mr Narteh expressed delight over the strong turnout and commended residents for their dedication to maintaining a clean environment. He acknowledged resource challenges but assured that the assembly would work to resolve them, emphasising that “cleanliness is next to godliness” and should be incorporated into daily life.
Mr Ebenezer Addo, the Presiding Member and assembly member for the New Ningo electoral area, noted that the initiative would extend to other communities and promised improvements to choked gutters and poor drainage once road contractors resume work.
He also mentioned that part of the assembly’s budget had been allocated for waste containers in all electoral areas to make the district one of the cleanest in the Greater Accra Region.
Mr Noah Narteh Abayateye, Assembly Member for Dawa, encouraged residents to avoid littering, stressing that sanitation is a continuous effort rather than a one-day activity.
Madam Evelyn Nani, the District Environmental Health Officer, praised the community for their enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of waste segregation and positive sanitation practices to prevent disease outbreaks and maintain a healthy living environment.
