The Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) has recorded a significant surge in postgraduate enrolment for its weekend and distance programmes in the 2025/2026 academic year, with over 50 per cent more students admitted compared to last year.
A total of 1,226 students, 801 males and 425 females, were admitted into various faculties and schools at the postgraduate level, marking a 58 per cent increase from the 588 students enrolled in the 2024/2025 academic year.
Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile, Vice-Chancellor of SDD-UBIDS, announced the figures during a special induction ceremony for the new students, noting that the establishment of the Institute for Distance Education and Learning (IDEL) in 2024 had positioned the university as a key partner in the government’s agenda to expand access to tertiary education.

“This is a strong indicator of growing confidence in the quality and relevance of our postgraduate programmes.
The University is determined and working hard to align with the government’s policy of expanding access to good quality and inclusive tertiary education,” Prof. Derbile said.
He highlighted that IDEL coordinates all distance and weekend programmes to provide flexible learning opportunities for working professionals, while the university continues to foster a learning environment that promotes academic excellence, innovation, and leadership development.
“Our postgraduate programmes are carefully designed to meet national and international standards, equipping students with knowledge, analytical skills, and leadership competencies needed to solve complex development challenges,” he explained.
Prof. Derbile urged matriculants to maintain discipline, actively engage in academic activities, and balance studies with work and family obligations.
He assured them of the university’s support through quality teaching, mentorship, and efficient academic administration, emphasising that embracing challenges and taking responsibility for their learning journey would enable them to contribute to a just, inclusive, and sustainable world.
