Vice President of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering backing for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, emphasizing that the sustainable management of the country’s lands and natural resources is central to national development and survival.
During a formal working visit to the Ministry on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Professor Opoku-Agyemang was warmly received by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, along with agency heads, directors, and senior management staff.
She noted that the visit was a deliberate effort to engage directly with those implementing government policies, stressing the importance of connecting names to faces and acknowledging the human effort behind policy delivery.

Commending the Ministry for its interventions, particularly in tackling land degradation and environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, the Vice President warned that Ghana’s survival depends on responsible management of its lands and resources.
She also highlighted the importance of digitisation in land administration, noting that improved records and systems would enhance access, transparency, and ownership.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged deliberate inclusion of women in land policy, emphasizing that reserving portions of land banks for women would enable them to contribute significantly to economic growth.
She also praised the Ministry’s decentralisation efforts, which she said are vital for solving problems at the grassroots.
Minister Buah provided a comprehensive overview of the state of the lands, mining, and forestry sub-sectors, detailing achievements, ongoing reforms, and future projections.
He emphasized that the Ministry’s work directly impacts economic growth, environmental sustainability, and food security, and reaffirmed its commitment to job creation, revenue generation, and long-term environmental protection.
Deputy Minister Hon. Sulemana Yusif, on behalf of the Minister and staff, expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s visit, describing it as a strong signal of government’s commitment to effective coordination, accountability, and inclusive development within the natural resources sector.
