The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has held a high-level engagement with the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss security collaboration and concerns surrounding inland border checkpoints in the Volta Region.
The delegation, led by Hon. James Gunu, focused on reports of inhuman treatment at some checkpoints and the need to protect the dignity and rights of commuters and residents while safeguarding national security.
During the meeting, the President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, shared firsthand concerns raised by community members who regularly use the checkpoints.

In response, the Interior Minister assured the delegation that any misconduct by security personnel would be dealt with decisively.He explained the strategic importance of the checkpoints to national security and appealed for continued cooperation between traditional authorities and security agencies.
Hon. James Gunu expressed appreciation for the frank and constructive engagement, reaffirming the Volta Region’s commitment to working closely with the Ministry to maintain peace and security.
He highlighted the region’s reputation as one of the most peaceful in the country and an emerging safe destination for investment, a point the Minister confirmed based on available data.
He further called on traditional leaders and residents to remain calm as corrective measures are implemented, stressing his resolve to balance security needs with human dignity while protecting the peace and stability of the Volta Region.
