Accra Technical University (ATU) is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Hotel Catering and Tourism Training Institute (HOTCATT) to strengthen Ghana‘s tourism and hospitality sector.
The partnership seeks to promote collaboration in practical training, research, and programme development across tourism, hospitality, and culinary disciplines. Once signed, the agreement will introduce short-term, hands-on courses aimed at enhancing skills development and bridging the gap between academic training and industry practice.
At a facilitation meeting in Accra on Thursday, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, Vice-Chancellor of ATU, said the MoU would foster cooperation in admissions, facilities development, research, and institutional visibility. He noted that the collaboration would empower both trainees and professionals through innovation and experiential learning.

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, commended the initiative, emphasising the need for more practical training to raise professional standards in the sector.
“There is no place I visit without calling for investors to support the training needs of the sector,” she said. “The attitude of some service providers, who behave as though they are doing customers a favour, must change. Service delivery should be professional, and staff should be easily identifiable, even in restaurants.”
The collaboration is expected to boost industry readiness, service quality, and workforce professionalism within Ghana’s growing tourism and hospitality industry.
