Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education, has called on the management of Accra Technical University (ATU) to upgrade its curriculum to meet global standards, stressing that this would bridge the gap between academia and industry and strengthen Ghana‘s human capital.
The remarks were delivered on his behalf during ATU’s 25th congregation, which graduated a total of 2,771 students across master’s programmes in technology, bachelor of technology programmes, and diploma programmes.
The ceremony was held under the theme: “Emerging Technologies: How Prepared is the ATU Graduate?”

The Minister encouraged graduates to embrace innovation and technology, create their own employment opportunities, and not rely solely on government jobs. “Your achievements are a testament to the contribution of the nation.
The foundation you received from ATU should empower you to excel in the workspace,” he said, adding that he sees future captains of industry, ministers, parliamentarians, and job creators among the graduates.
He commended ATU’s management for enhancing the nation’s manpower base and reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening technical and vocational training institutions to provide hands-on experience for youth employment.
Mr. Ebenezer Twum Asante, Senior Vice President of MTN Group, advised graduates to seek internships, continually learn, and stay updated in technology, urging them to break the cycle of poverty with “stubborn perseverance.”
Professor Amevi Acakpovi, Vice-Chancellor of ATU, described graduation as the beginning of a journey into the workforce and highlighted the university’s focus on high-demand fields, including cybersecurity.
He urged graduates to be creative and purpose-driven to contribute to societal transformation.
Ms. Gloria Sarfo, the overall best graduating student, reflected on the challenges of balancing work and studies, and pledged on behalf of her peers to use their knowledge to uplift others and advance national development.
