During a panel discussion on the use of generative AI in education, the Minister stressed that learners and teachers remain the central actors in the educational process.
He noted that AI tools should be intentionally designed to support teachers to teach more effectively and enable learners to achieve better learning outcomes, rather than replacing human involvement.
Hon. Iddrisu further emphasized that generative AI must complement, not substitute, human agency. He argued that human judgement and critical thinking are irreplaceable cognitive skills that should be protected as AI adoption expands within the education sector.
He concluded by calling for appropriate legislation and policy frameworks capable of influencing the design, deployment, and governance of generative AI technologies in education, to ensure innovation does not undermine the human foundations of teaching and learning.
