The Kade District Court in the Eastern Region has remanded five students of Kade Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in connection with the assault of a teacher, Michael Quayson, during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The statement, signed by Daniel Fenyi, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, said the accused persons appeared before the court on Wednesday, January 7, pleaded guilty to the charges, with four of them aged 18 and above remanded into prison custody, while a 17-year-old juvenile was remanded into police custody.
They are expected to reappear before the court on January 20, 2026. The juvenile’s case will be handled separately by a Juvenile Court.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) described the court’s action as a clear demonstration of the commitment of the Ministry of Education and GES to protect teachers and uphold the integrity of the WASSCE.
The Service has strongly cautioned students against assaulting teachers under any circumstances.
