The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has officially installed its maiden Hall Master and Warden for the Sokode and Asogli Halls of Residence at a brief ceremony held on campus.
Dr David Adedia, a Senior Lecturer, assumes responsibility as Hall Master of Sokode Hall, while Dr Inemesit Okon Ben, also a Senior Lecturer, takes charge of Asogli Hall, both appointed for a renewable three-year term.
Professor Lydia Aziato, the Vice Chancellor of UHAS, said the initiative follows approval from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and marks a new phase in fostering a positive, well-managed residential environment for students and staff.

She explained that the Hall Masters/Wardens are responsible for administration, governance, security, welfare, and facility maintenance, with oversight responsibilities for smaller, privately-owned hostels affiliated with the university.
“Strong leadership in the halls is crucial for the growth and development of the university. The appointment of hallmasters and wardens is a key step in ensuring the smooth operation and positive environment of our residential system,” Prof. Aziato said.
She assured the appointees of the university’s support and resources to enable them to perform their duties effectively, adding that strong residential leadership plays a vital role in the institution’s overall development and success.
Prof. Judith A. Torgbor, the Dean of Students, described the appointments as a reflection of trust, dedication, and leadership potential, saying the duo would serve as mentors and guardians (in loco parentis) to students.
She noted that their leadership would be guided by four pillars — excellence, integrity, innovation, and social welfare — and charged them to ensure that each hall remained safe, secure, and supportive.
“You must mainstream security measures, mental health awareness, and accessible emergency and grievance protocols to protect student welfare,” she emphasized.
In their acceptance remarks, Dr Adedia and Dr Ben pledged to uphold the values of diligence and integrity and to promote student-centred governance. They outlined plans to improve security by installing CCTV cameras, establishing emergency lines, and introducing hall week celebrations and training programmes.
They also announced the creation of a budget committee with student and staff representation to promote transparency and shared governance.
The Sokode and Asogli Halls, together with other privately-owned hostels, currently accommodate over 2,600 students, forming a vital part of the UHAS campus community.
