A Communication Lecturer at Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, Mr Kofi Yeboah, has donated about 700 books to the Miaso Krobo D/A Basic School in the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region to promote literacy and improve learning outcomes.
The books, which include textbooks for Basic 1 to 9 and storybooks for lower primary pupils, were presented during a community durbar held at Miaso on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The event was attended by District Education officials, traditional leaders, opinion leaders, teachers, pupils, and parents.
According to a press release issued by Mr Yeboah and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the donation was made possible through the kind support of Adwinsa Publications (GH) Ltd and individuals, including the Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College, Dr Paul Kofi Fynn, and the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour.

Mr Yeboah expressed gratitude to all contributors and urged more individuals and organisations to support similar initiatives to uplift underprivileged communities. He revealed that his connection to Miaso dates back to 1992, when he undertook his post-secondary national service at the same school.
“It has always been my wish to return to this school, and I’m happy that after 33 years, I’ve gotten the opportunity to come back and donate these books,” he said.
Recalling his service days, he described the poor state of the school building at the time. “The classrooms were made of mud with palm frond roofing. Anytime the weather became cloudy, classes closed because when it rained, it also rained in the classrooms,” he recounted.
Mr Yeboah expressed delight at the school’s transformation, noting the improved infrastructure and availability of ceiling fans. “This is a huge improvement, and there is a need to support the school with more learning materials like computers to give the children a better and brighter future,” he added.
He encouraged teachers and pupils to make good use of the books by creating reading periods before and after school to strengthen literacy habits. He also urged parents to invest in their children’s education and motivate them to stay in school.
The Fanteakwa North District Chief Inspector of Schools, Seth Kofi Darko, who chaired the event, thanked Mr Yeboah for the gesture and expressed optimism that the donation would positively impact pupils’ learning.
The Head Teacher, Mr David Siame, and the Odikro of Miaso, Nana Kwabi Opoku, also expressed deep appreciation to Mr Yeboah for his generosity. Mr Siame appealed for additional support from individuals and corporate bodies to further enhance teaching and learning at the school.
