The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has joined participants at the ongoing Under-17 Football Competition at Zone 8, Bekwai, as part of activities marking AshantiFest 2026.
The competition brings together six districts , Bekwai, Amansie South, Amansie West, Amansie Central, Bosomtwe, and Atwima Kwanwoma , competing at the group stage.
The matches are aimed at identifying and nurturing young football talent while promoting teamwork, discipline, and unity among the youth.

Speaking at the event, Dr Amoakohene highlighted the importance of grassroots sports in youth development, noting that not all challenges are resolved through formal processes, but sometimes through simple community engagement and shared activities such as sports.
He described the tournament as a reflection of the region’s commitment to empowering young people and using sports as a tool for social cohesion and positive development across the Ashanti Region.
