Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of six potential recruits who died during a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on November 12.
In a heartfelt message posted on Facebook on Thursday, the former President extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“I convey to the bereaved families my deepest condolences and wish the potential recruits in hospital a speedy recovery from their injuries and the accompanying trauma suffered by all who were at the El-Wak Stadium, including their parents, guardians and loved ones.
It is my hope that each day will bring you renewed strength. May the Lord be with us all at this difficult moment,”
he wrote.
Mr Akufo-Addo said he returned from Angola to the devastating news of the tragedy, which occurred during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region.

Meanwhile, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Acting Minister of Defence, briefed Parliament on Wednesday, confirming that the incident resulted in 34 casualties.
According to him, six people lost their lives, five were in critical condition and receiving intensive care, while twelve others were classified as fairly critical and required close monitoring. The remaining victims were reported to be in stable condition and under observation.
