The Kosmos Innovation Centre (KIC), the social responsibility arm of Kosmos Energy, has officially commissioned a hardware centre of excellence at Akyawkrom in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The facility, developed in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and Kosmos Energy, features six specialised ultra-modern laboratories, a training space, washrooms, a security post, and other supporting infrastructure.
The laboratories include the Food Innovation Lab, Electronics Lab, Mechatronics Lab, Computer Design Lab, Metal Fabrication Lab, and Woodwork Lab, each equipped with sophisticated machines designed to help youth entrepreneurs, creators, and innovators transform business ideas into practical solutions. The training space can accommodate between 100 to 150 participants.

Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of KIC Ghana, described the facility, which occupies two plots of land, as a world-class makerspace and a playground for innovators.
He noted that the hardware centre of excellence represents a complete ecosystem, benefiting participants of KIC’s AgriTech Challenge and Business Incubation programmes, as well as external innovators, students, and entrepreneurs nationwide seeking to create tangible solutions for Ghana’s agricultural and industrial sectors.
Gyan-Kesse highlighted the critical support of the Mastercard Foundation and Kosmos Energy, stating, “We are creating more than a building; we are building bridges. Bridges that connect digital ideas to physical reality. Bridges that connect Ghanaian innovation to global opportunity.”
Nana Joe Mensah, Board Chairman of KIC, emphasised that the facility demonstrates the potential of collaboration between the private sector, development partners, and government institutions.
He urged the government, academia, development agencies, and private sector stakeholders to expand access, deepen impact, and ensure the centre serves as a national resource for innovation across all sectors.
