Assemblies of God launches 2026 World Congress in Accra as Ghana becomes first African host of global fellowship event

The Assemblies of God has officially launched the 2026 World Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship in Accra, marking a historic milestone as Ghana becomes the first African nation to host the global event.

The launch commemorates 110 years of the fellowship’s global journey and 93 years of Assemblies of God ministry in Ghana.

The ceremony drew clergy, dignitaries, and Christian leaders from across Ghana and beyond.

Officiating the launch, Reverend Dominic Yeo, Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship and General Superintendent of the Singapore Assemblies of God, praised Ghana’s spiritual vitality, political stability, and hospitality.

The Congress, scheduled for October 14–16, 2026, is expected to bring together 10,000 pastors and church leaders under the theme: “Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation.”

Reverend Yeo highlighted the strategic importance of the Congress in alignment with the MM33 global vision to establish one million Assemblies of God churches by 2033.

Reverend Stephen Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, described hosting the Congress as a “righteous imposition” and a divine assignment, noting the denomination’s growth to over 89.9 million members globally, including 20 million in Africa.

The Local Organising Committee, chaired by Reverend Andrews Nelson Awintia, has been preparing since last year, pledging collective effort to ensure excellence. Attendees also observed a moment of silence for six female potential recruits who tragically lost their lives at Airworks Stadium.

Mr Eric Kutortse, a prominent member of the Assemblies of God Ghana, described the Congress as a “divine appointment” and urged corporate Ghana and kingdom investors to support the event, emphasising its spiritual and socio-economic significance.

He highlighted the enduring power of the gospel and Ghana’s readiness to welcome the global community.

The Congress is expected to attract thousands of delegates from over 190 countries, positioning Ghana as a spiritual hub while boosting tourism, investment, and business opportunities.

The government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahama, a member of the Assemblies of God Ghana, has pledged support. Special guests at the launch included Reverend Lipenga Banda of Zambia, Reverend Ben Gousou Soujie of Benin, and Reverend Professor Paul Frimpong-Manso of Ghana.
