Gender Ministry to mark World Children’s Day with launch of revised Early Childhood Development Policy

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, through the Department of Children, will commemorate the 2025 World Children’s Day with the launch of the revised Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Policy.

This year’s celebration, themed “My Day My Right: Investing in Early Childhood, a National Priority,” will spotlight the critical role of early childhood development in ensuring holistic growth, protection, and lifelong learning for children aged 0–8 years.

A statement issued by the Ministry the updated ECCD Policy reflects more than 15 years of progress and integrates recent sectoral developments, including alignment with the Nurturing Care Framework.

It emphasised that quality care, early stimulation, health, nutrition, and education are essential in shaping children’s cognitive, social, and emotional well-being.

By strengthening these areas, the revised policy aims to reduce inequalities often rooted in poverty and discrimination, the Ministry noted.

As part of the celebration, the 7th Sitting of the National Children’s Parliament will be held, offering young representatives a structured platform to discuss national issues such as child protection, health, education, and climate risks.

The Ministry said the forum promotes active participation and empowers children to articulate their rights and concerns.

Leading up to the event, a series of activities, including capacity building for child parliamentarians, nationwide sensitisation campaigns, and media engagements, will raise awareness of the revised policy and broader children’s rights issues.

Expected outcomes include widespread dissemination of the updated policy, strengthened multi-sectoral commitment to children’s development, enhanced child participation in national dialogue, and increased public awareness of emerging child-related challenges.

The Ministry expects to reach over a million people through various media platforms.

It also acknowledged the vital support of partners such as UNICEF, World Vision Ghana, Plan Ghana, and other stakeholders dedicated to improving child welfare in the country.
