Manhyia, Kumasi – 20 January 2026,on 19 January 2026, I was present at the Manhyia Palace when Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, the Asante Mamponghene, formally swore allegiance to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, Asanteman, and the revered Sikadwa.
The ceremony was solemn and deeply symbolic, reflecting the authority, continuity, and dignity of Asante customs and traditions. It reaffirmed the values that have sustained Asanteman for centuries and continue to anchor the identity of the Asante people.
The act of swearing allegiance is not merely ceremonial; it represents loyalty, responsibility, and an unbroken chain of traditional governance that binds chiefs to the Golden Stool and to the people they serve.

The moment highlighted the strength of Asante institutions and the respect accorded to customary authority.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu III’s oath signified his commitment to uphold the traditions of Asante Mampong and to lead with wisdom, service, and integrity. It also reinforced the unity between the divisional stools and the Asantehene, a foundation of stability within Asanteman.
As he begins his reign, there is strong expectation that his leadership will bring meaningful development, promote peace, and contribute positively to the progress of Asante Mampong and the wider Asanteman.
The ceremony at Manhyia Palace once again demonstrated that Asante tradition remains vibrant, relevant, and firmly rooted in the collective consciousness of the people.
