Dr. Frank Amoakohene has visited the Asafo Market following a fire outbreak that occurred on Tuesday night, engaging affected traders and assessing the extent of damage caused by the incident.
During the visit, Dr. Amoakohene interacted directly with traders whose goods and livelihoods were impacted, expressing concern over the losses and assuring them of government’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts.
He noted that while investigations and assessments are ongoing, authorities remain focused on helping victims rebuild and restore normal trading activities.

Describing the incident as a sobering reminder, Dr. Amoakohene stressed the urgent need to strengthen fire safety practices in markets across the country.
He cautioned traders and market leaders against illegal electrical connections and emphasized the importance of switching off electrical appliances after close of work. He also underscored the need to keep market exits accessible at all times to allow for quick evacuation in emergencies.
Dr. Amoakohene further called on traders to cooperate fully with the Ghana National Fire Service, particularly during routine inspections and safety education exercises. According to him, prevention remains the most effective way to reduce the frequency and impact of market fires.
He urged all stakeholders, including traders, market associations and local authorities, to work collectively to prevent future incidents and to safeguard markets for both present and future generations
