UEW Co-operative Credit Union CEO commends members for loyalty and support

Mrs Christina Kilson, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Co-operative Credit Union (UEWCCU), has commended members for their continued loyalty and support towards the growth and sustainability of the Union.

She made the commendation during separate engagement sessions held at Winneba, Senya, Cape Coast, and Buduburam, where she interacted with members and discussed the Union’s sustainability agenda. The meetings also provided a platform for members to raise concerns and make suggestions on welfare and institutional growth.

Mrs Kilson reminded members that they are the true owners of the Union, stressing that such interactions strengthen participation and enhance decision-making.

Tracing the Union’s history, she noted that the UEWCCU was established in November 1994 with 28 founding members drawn from senior and junior staff of the University, who contributed through payroll deductions.

“It was a self-help initiative to address the financial needs of members, promote savings, and give back to the community,” she explained. “Today, the Union has grown into a leading cooperative with three branches, three agencies across the Central and Ashanti Regions, and a virtual branch — leaving impactful footprints in our operational communities.”

She said that despite global challenges, the Union had maintained steady growth through strategic initiatives such as member-focused service, diversification of revenue streams, operational resilience, staff development, risk management, and performance monitoring.

“We remain committed to providing secure and convenient services while leveraging technology and digitalisation to drive sustainable growth,” she assured.

Mrs Kilson revealed that the Union had introduced an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) platform to enhance operational efficiency and convenience, urging members to make full use of the service for their transactions.

During an open forum, members expressed appreciation to the founding members and management for their dedication and professionalism, noting that the Union’s success reflected sound leadership and prudent financial management.

Dr (Mrs) Gloria Amah, a UEW lecturer and member of the Union who chaired the meetings, commended members for their loyalty and contributions, noting that periodic engagements between management and members were essential for institutional growth.

She said the Union’s continued progress depended on the sustained commitment and patronage of its members, urging them to keep supporting its services and products to improve their welfare.
