The Ministry of Health has hosted its inaugural Midwives’ Innovation Hackathon Exhibition, highlighting the ingenuity and problem-solving skills of Ghana‘s midwives as frontline leaders and agents of change.
This exhibition featured midwife-led projects judged by a panel, celebrating practical innovations designed from the realities of frontline care.
Chief Director Desmond Boateng emphasized that the event supports the Ministry’s goal of improving maternal and newborn outcomes, reinforcing midwives’ vital role in achieving Ghana’s Universal Health Coverage objectives.

He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to innovation-driven initiatives that enhance efficiency, decision-making, and safe, quality care for mothers and newborns.
Madam Netta Ackon-Forson, President of the Ghana Registered Midwives Association, noted that the Hackathon demonstrated innovation is not limited to advanced technology but stems from practical solutions rooted in everyday challenges faced by midwives.
She added that for many women, midwives represent the entire health system, delivering lifesaving care under difficult conditions.
Madam Estel Ruth Opoku, Head of the Midwifery Unit at the Ministry, announced that winners will receive cash prizes, mentorship, and opportunities to scale their ideas.
Partners including Google, Microsoft, and UNFPA have pledged support to help midwives develop prototypes, digital tools, and community-based solutions.
