The daily struggles and sacrifices of a mother can never be overemphasised. A mother is undoubtedly an epitome of love, patience and a mentor, who nurtures and helps in shaping society where peaceful co-existence is a necessity but often a scarce commodity.
Mothers can never be forgotten, as their daily struggles are crucial in every sphere of life.
As the world prepares to celebrate mothers and mother figures on the 10th of May, 2026, the world and any living soul who calls the beautiful name “Mama” owes it a duty to give back the love, sacrifices and support they have given us, including forgoing their dreams and aspirations to make us whom we are today. The way to do it is by showing mothers genuine love, respect and support.

Mother’s Day is celebrated globally, with most countries, including Ghana, observing theirs on Sunday, the 10th of May 2026. A few other nations have different dates for marking the great day.
On whatever day you celebrate mothers and mother figures, you have got to pour out genuine love, support and kindness to the women – consciously avoiding making it just a routine “ritual” lip-service. Mothers are a real gem and must be valued as such. On these auspicious occasions, we should remember the early morning struggles, afternoon hustle-and-bustle and sleepless nights mothers go through for decades with resilience and confidence. Just for a moment reflect on typical household chores of a mother – how she prepares her school-going children for school. If you reflect deeper into the lot single women who double as mothers and fathers with no iota of help from any quarters, then you shudder to wonder how they manage to get their wards alive, healthy, fed, clothed, and schooling every single day of the Lord’s creation.
For most mothers, fending for the family is a daily nightmare. Paying of school fees and putting food on the table for the family draw so heavily on the dexterity of mothers, including even those who are in marriage and their husbands are their children’s fathers. Mothers are the domestic bursars and home managers.
To provide the needs and wants of her family, a typical mother will take all possible legitimate means – and painfully at time not-so-legitimate means – to succeed. They just damn the consequences! Sadly but not so surprisingly, in hassling to cater for their families, some mothers die along the way – never realising the consolation prize of seeing their children grown into responsible and income-earning adults. Needless to add, such a mother losses the chance of her matured children supporting her in her old age or illness.
If that saddens your heart, what about those expectant women who lose their precious lives during childbirth, as they push hard to bring other precious lives into the world? Sobering! And, if the baby survives, it surely is another woman who must sacrifice her precious time, care and love to mother that innocent baby into that great person society looks up to.
Mothers who are alive and are neglected by the very children they so much sacrificed to bring up can only brood over their painful lot. They can trust in God for a turnaround as they count their losses and what may appear wasted years and unrewarded sacrifices.
This year, another Mother’s Day is here as the very latest opportunity to make the narrative completely positive for all biological mothers and mother figures. Just celebrate them with all your heart, soul and mind.
Mothers deserve a meaningful celebration!!!
