The Agortime-Ziope District in the Volta Region will, on Thursday, November 27, honour ten exceptional farmers as part of activities marking the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration.
The district ceremony, set for Keyime, a major farming community, forms part of efforts to recognise individuals and institutions whose work continues to shape agricultural development in the area. The date was moved forward due to the national celebration being hosted in the Volta Region this year.
Mr Mawuli Abusah, Agortime-Ziope District Director of the Department of Food and Agriculture (DoFA), told the Ghana News Agency that preparations were well advanced for a colourful and inclusive event.

He noted that the award categories were carefully designed to reflect the district’s diverse agricultural strengths. Honours will include the Overall Best District Farmer, District Best Crop Farmer, District Best Livestock Farmer, and District Best Female Farmer and Processor.
The programme will also recognise the District Best Differently-Abled Farmer, Best Senior High School in Farming, Best Junior High School in Farming and Best Primary School in Farming.
Additionally, the Best Faith-Based Organisation or Institution in Practical Agriculture will be acknowledged, alongside a Special Award for the Best Differently-Abled Farmer, sponsored by the Member of Parliament for Agortime-Ziope, Mr Charles Agbeve.
Mr Abusah said the awards highlight not only the contributions of farmers but also the important role of schools and religious institutions in nurturing a new generation of agriculturally skilled youth.
Chiefs and residents from Adzonkor, Kadzinkor, Klokpaga, Wudzedeke, Sowlada Kofe, Astrulume and nearby communities are expected to attend, with a large turnout anticipated from farmers, community leaders and agricultural stakeholders.
The Agortime-Ziope District and other districts in the region are observing their Farmers’ Day celebrations on November 27, ahead of the National Farmers’ Day ceremony scheduled for December 5 in Ho.
Mr Abusah praised farmers for their resilience in the face of climate variability, rising input costs and post-harvest losses. He encouraged the adoption of improved farming practices to boost productivity and food security.
Award winners will receive certificates, agricultural tools, farm inputs and other incentives to support their work, he said, reaffirming the Department of Agriculture’s commitment to strengthening agriculture as the backbone of the district economy.
