The Eastern Regional Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has launched the Buy Ghana, Love Ghana campaign in Koforidua to help local manufacturers place their products in A-rated supermarkets.
Industrial stakeholders, including the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and Melcom Group, participated in the initiative.
The launch included an outreach programme where FDA officials engaged buyers from various supermarkets, emphasizing the importance of purchasing locally made products and participating in the Progressive Licensing Scheme (PLS).

Ms. Anita Owusu-Kuffour, Eastern Regional Head of the FDA, said the campaign aims to strengthen the local economy, reduce import dependence, and build national pride.
She highlighted the agency’s collaboration with industry stakeholders to enhance market access through public awareness campaigns, certification programmes, and export facilitation efforts.
She encouraged manufacturers to leverage the Progressive Licensing Scheme, which provides technical guidance, training, and phased regulatory approvals to help businesses meet production standards.
“Through phased regulatory approvals, compliance requirements are broken into manageable steps, allowing incremental improvements in quality control, facility upgrades, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP),” she explained.
At Melcom Supermarket, shelves were reserved for made-in-Ghana products, including foodstuffs, vegetables, cereals, fruits, and carved wood items. Mr. Eric Obeng, Acting Eastern Regional Manager of GEA, urged Ghanaians to support local products.
Mr. Desmond Akuffo of Profa Foods, a cereal producer, acknowledged that the Progressive Licensing Scheme enabled his company to supply renowned supermarkets in the region.
He called on other manufacturers to participate in the scheme to avoid compliance issues with the FDA and other regulatory authorities.
