His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on January 6, 2026, paid a historic working visit to the National Police Headquarters, where he engaged the leadership and personnel of the Ghana Police Service on issues of national security, professionalism, and the relevance of traditional authority in modern policing.

The visit was marked by a special Guard of Honour parade mounted in his honour. Addressing officers at the parade, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II described the occasion as significant, saying it had brought him into what he termed the “engine room of national security.”

He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and all personnel of the Service for their dedication, discipline, and professionalism in maintaining peace, security, and public order despite evolving security challenges.

The Asantehene stressed that the sacrifices of police officers, who work tirelessly while citizens sleep and move about in safety, must never be taken for granted. He noted that their commitment remains central to national stability.

Tracing the roots of policing to traditional society, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II explained that long before colonial rule, communities relied on customary authority, shared values, and moral discipline to maintain law and order.

He emphasised that effective modern policing must be built on public trust, cultural understanding, and strong collaboration between the Police Service and traditional authorities.

In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, described the visit as historic and unprecedented, stating that it would remain permanently etched in the institutional memory of the Ghana Police Service.

He highlighted the enduring link between indigenous systems of governance and contemporary policing in Ghana.

Mr. Yohuno also praised Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his consistent support for the Police Service and his significant role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution across the country.

He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to deepening collaboration with traditional authorities to strengthen community trust, intelligence-led policing, and national security.
